BWO
Learning centerA place to learn, thrive, and grow together
The BWO Learning Center, located in the heart of Banko, is a vibrant hub where ambitious young women and youth build their economic independence. Through practical vocational training, entrepreneurship classes, and personal mentorship, they lay a strong foundation for a promising future.
Thanks to additional courses in basic bookkeeping and customer service, our students learn more than just a trade—they gain the essential skills to successfully run their own businesses.
Our Vocational Programs

Sewing Program (Basic & Advanced)
From the basics to mastery
Under the guidance of Madam Fremah, students follow a structured curriculum. In their first year (Basic), they master the essential fundamentals of sewing. In January 2026, our very first Advanced group kicked off: an intensive second year where students refine their skills to a professional tailoring level.
Upon graduation, each seamstress receives her own sewing machine as a start-up kit to immediately generate a sustainable income.

Hairdressing Program
More than just hair
Under the expert guidance of Madam Ajara, this program covers essential beauty skills: from braiding, cornrows, and wig making to manicures, pedicures, and makeup application. This coming September 2026, a brand-new, motivated group of at least four students will start this intensive one-year course.
Graduates receive a professional hairdressing start-up kit to immediately launch their own salon or mobile service.

New: ICT Center
Digital skills for the future
Our local print shop is expanding! The space for our official ICT Center is already secured, and the windows have now been installed. In the Netherlands, around 20 laptops are ready for shipment. We aim to launch in the final quarter of this year with an initial cohort of 4 to 6 students.
To truly open our doors, we still need support to fund the furniture, a stable internet connection, and the salary for a professional instructor. This center will unlock opportunities for modern careers and boost digital connectivity for the entire community.
The success story of former student Sadya
Sadya is a proud grandmother in her forties with six children. Alongside caring for her family, she used to work incredibly hard as a part-time cleaner and farm laborer—income that was highly unpredictable during poor harvests. When the opportunity arose, Sadya seized the basic sewing training at BWO with both hands.
Before long, she was creating beautiful children’s clothes and offering custom tailoring services throughout her village. Thanks to her success, she has been able to scale back the heavy farm work. Sadya is living proof that vocational training provides women with financial security and paves the way for a brighter future.
