BWO Soap Factory

Training. Work. Opportunity.

This is the place in Banko, Ghana, where local women and young people take charge of their own future. Rather than providing passive aid, we create an active learning environment where determination is transformed into economic independence.

At our factory, we produce soap and cleaning products for the local market to create real employment opportunities. Together, we are building sustainable income while helping fund healthy meals for students in our vocational training programs. Step by step, batch by batch.

Building Sustainable Income and Local Impact

Many women and young people in Ghana have limited access to practical vocational training and fair, paid employment. With the BWO Soap Factory in Banko, we are taking a concrete step toward lasting change. We do not believe in passive aid, but in the power of earning your own income.

The soap factory is a strategic investment in the future of our organization. It is our first step toward generating income that is completely independent of tourism. Tourism can be unpredictable, but there is always a local demand for soap and cleaning products.

Today, the factory serves as an active learning and working environment where we are starting small with big ambitions:

  • Direct Employment: The factory currently provides one full-time job for a local employee.

  • Active Collaboration: Our students and madams (teachers) actively contribute to the factory’s operations. This ensures that production is directly connected to the hands-on experience gained through our vocational training programs.

  • Practical Business Skills: During the production process, students and staff learn much more than how to make soap. They also develop skills in entrepreneurship, quality control, local marketing, and bookkeeping.

The soap and cleaning products we produce together are sold on the local market. The proceeds are reinvested directly into the organization to help fund the daily healthy meals provided to our students. In this way, we are building a self-sustaining community that can stand on its own feet—step by step.

Affordable Quality for the Community

At the BWO Soap Factory, we currently produce four popular product categories, each available in two wonderful scents: liquid soap, fabric softener, floor cleaner, and shower gel.

Because we believe that everyone deserves access to good hygiene products, we also offer our products in smaller, affordable package sizes. This makes products such as shower gel accessible to students and local families with more limited budgets.

All profits from local sales are reinvested directly into the organization to help fund daily meals for our students.
